Take your Thermostat off the wall run the wiring through the holes on the backing plate replace with the same screws you take the thermostat off the wall with wire Your thermostat back up and put the face plate on in Lockett

Return the box...it is the best way.

Q: If I buy more than one, will all the keys be the same key?

the covers I bought were keyed differently.

Q: can this be mounted vertically or horizontally?

Although I think it was designed to go over a vertical thermostat, which is how my thermostat was mounted. I see no reason why it wouldn't work horizontally. I will say although it is lockable and designed to keep reasonable people out it is not very heavy duty, it would be very easy for someone other than my 90 year old mother to break into it.
