Awesome read!
I love this story it's a wonderful story. Sad that life is not always good even when good things things happen. There's good and evil in most choices.

an inspiration for Tolkein ...
This classic by John Steinbeck serves as a precursor to “The blood of the rings” in that it speaks of a shiny rare object acquired by one which all else crave, but even far more so in that in describes music to compose the essence of all sentient beings. Just the “the great of wrath” can be considered a precursor to the terminator and battle star galactic, the same can be said of John Steinbeck’s “the pearl” and “lot do the rings” 📕

Class assignment
I bought this book for my teenager, she needed this for a class. It was a good buy and she has kept it nicely taken care of. She liked the book but also she was forced to read it for an assignment.

Audiobook Not Divided by Chapter
The book in and of itself is beautiful. I purchased the audio version for my high school students, as we are reading this novel in class. Everything about it is wonderful -- except... the tracks are not divided into the book chapters. There are a couple of chapters that begin in the middle of a track, making it difficult to cue up.

Could not put it down!
I've been a long time fan of John Steinbeck for many decades, but somehow this little gem had escaped me.... a bit of a pun because the story would be meaningless without the pearl --the little gem around which this story is centered. Read it!

Unlike my usual read
This book is best if you know nothing about it. You will be left in quiet thought and deep reflection.
