Product Description Former Royal Marine officer and expedition leader Bruce Parry, sheds the trappings of a western existence and lives alongside tribes, such as the forest people of central Gabon, adopting their methods and practices. Taking adventure into a whole new realm, Parry dares to go where other presenters fear to tread: hunting, cooking and eating like a native and even trying the local recreational and ritualistic poisons. He also examines the way in which western influence is encroaching on these remote areas and asks whether this is a good thing. This box set includes series 1, 2 and 3. .co.uk Review One of the more interesting and diverting shows of recent times has seen former Royal Marine Bruce Parry head off to the far reaches of the planet to live among the various tribes of the world. And with all three series of the intriguing Tribe now collected together in this one sit, its an invitation to catch up on his adventures that youd be unwise to decline. The central idea finds Parry adopting the workings, methods and practices of the tribes that he spends time with. And the reason this works so well is Parry himself, providing a respectful, clear and calm core to a programme that could so easily have fallen foul of many assorted trappings of the genre. His findings throughout Tribe are frequently fascinating, and the programme itself is diligently paced to give you ample opportunity to take it all in. Its immersive and genuinely involving television. The episodes collected together in this Tribe boxset find Parry travelling through the likes of Ethiopia, Mongolia and the Himalayas, and theres a real sense of not knowing what youre going to discover when each episode begins. Marry that into episodes with strong rewatch value--for both educational and entertainment purposes--and Tribe emerges as little short of a modern television treat. --Jon Foster

A Great Adventure
I found this to be a fine series. Parry (a former Royal Marine instructor), in whose company we visit some of the worlds remotest tribes (in such places as Brazil, the Himalayas, Ethiopia, West Papua, Gabon and Bhutan) is an engaging and sympathetic guide.Parry visits fifteen tribes in all, spending a month living and interacting with each community. While there, he adopts the methods and practices of his hosts, participating in their rituals and exploring aspects of their culture. The episodes in this set are as follows:Series 11 Adi (India).2 Suri (Ethiopia).3 Kombai (West Papua).4 Babongo (Gabon).5 Darhad (Mongolia).6 Sanema (Brazil).Series 27 Nyangatom (Ethiopia).8 Hamar (Ethiopia).9 Dassanech (Ethiopia).Series 312 Matis (Brazil).11 Nenets (Russia).12 Anuta (Solomon Islands).13 Akie (Tanzania).14 Layap (Bhutan).15 Penan (Borneo). Parry was awarded the BAFTA Cymru "Best On-Screen Presenter" award in 2008 for his work on the 'Penan' Episode. A BAFTA Cymru "Best Camera: Not Drama" award was also awarded for Gavin Searle's work in the same episode. There is also a book to accompany the series Tribe: Adventures in a Changing World. Parry has also engaged in a number of other adventures. The following may also be of interest: Amazon [DVD] [2008], Blizzard: Race to the Pole [DVD] and Arctic with Bruce Parry [DVD] [2011].

Bruce goes tribal!
Watching Bruce Parry's Tribe is a real treat.Parry emerges himself into tribal life without reserves, and he does it in a way that is respectful towards the people he visits. By showing us what tribal life is like, he is also shedding light on the belief systems of these people, and on their relationship with the natural world they inhabit. And on the way they live as a community.Watching the episodes, I felt that I was being shows aspects of humanity that we have lost in our western world but that are so basically human that I can relate to them easily. It evoked emotions too. At once I felt that these people, their world, their way of life, is under threat. 'Our' world is closing in on them. That it would be a great loss, should their worlds be gone some day.In our society everything - every last thing - revolves around money. Then to see a community, functioning well, where money doesn't exist... It made me realise that however much money any of us may have in the bank, they may well be the richer people. Because in these tribal communities people matter most.Anyway... Tribe is inspirational, educational, profound, funny... I strongly recommend it.

Worth Every Penny
This is such a brilliant series, I can't believe the price first of all. Secondly, Bruce Parry is really a nice guy. So genuine, he understands the people and really brings the best out of them on screen. The basic jist of the series is that Bruce lives with a remote community around the world, experiences the cultures, tries rituals out and often hunts traditionally. If you enjoy travelling and culture it's for you, I enjoyed every minute. The people are always genuine and happy and you can really learn how the people live. Don't hesitate to buy!!!

Great series, finally out on dvd!
Finally finally this wonderfully weird, scary, funny, educational and extremely entertaining series is out on dvd! I'd seen every single one of them and I never stopped being amazed by the fascinating people Bruce Parry lives with for about a month. He's showing us all the things we'll probably never get to see for ourselves, and cheerfully doing all the things we certainly never ever would want to do ourselves! This series shows us a rare glimpse into the lives of very vulnerable peoples that may not survive in our 21st century world very much longer. It's also showing us that people are just people, wherever, whatever, whenever. They just want to live a quiet life, support their families and give their children a good future too. I think that's an important message, wrapped up in a highly entertaining package!I give this dvd set 4 out of 5, only because I think there's a lack of extra's. The only extra feature is Bruce Parry's first filmed expedition, and though that was certainly interesting I expected a bit more like some commentaries or behind the scenes footage.Never mind, go buy it anyway!!

A great series!
This is just awsome! I downloaded the ripped videos from the internet and instantly I have fallen in love with the series, so I ordered the DVD pack from Amazon. 6 Dvds full of very entertaining films about people living in unknown parts of the world (at least unknown for us). But it wouldn't be half as good without Bruce, a very nice, open minded person, who is willing to try almost anything to gain experience and also to almost instantly pass it on to us sitting in front of the screen. One of the greatest series of BBC even considering Planet Earth, which is one of my other favorites. I also recommend Amazon, which is the newest series of Bruce, and also very enjoyable!

Good series
An awesome documentary series following ex Royal Marine Bruce Parry as he swags about in the jungle with the natives. He's a tad eccentric and a bit touchly feely at times but he's a down to earth and pretty cool guy who gets into it with the tribes. He also gets of his nadgers on the local barks and brews which has fed my curiosity into these. A good docu that will educate and entertain.Do not watch if you are offended by saggy tribeslady mammary glands.
